I have always been inspired by photography. Capturing images and life moments with the click of a camera... freezing them in time fascinated me. Now, i am no Stephen Miesel or Henri Cartier- Bresson , i simply take photos of what catches my eye in my every day travels.
Hairstylists and makeup artists are trained to see balance, dimension, composition, symmetry and lines in our work, its what makes it appealing to the eye. Light, shadow, contour and hilight direct the eye in both beauty and photography.
It was only natural that my love of all things visual combined with a passion for capturing images through photography led me to this path in 2013.
I then chose to take it one step further by adding mixed media techniques to my photos, gallery mounting and resin coating them. What fun!! I called my venture EYE SPIED- IMAGES BY NICOLE All my pieces are numbered and on a limited run. While the image may be replicated, the finishing/ mixed media techniques i use (bleach, gold leaf, acrylic paint etc) are applied by hand , making each piece a one of a kind canvas. The resin i use is the highest quality, non yellowing epoxy which gives the piece unbelievable depth and a crystal clear finish. It truly brings it to LIFE!
This past year i have had both the pleasure and honor of participating in The Queen west Art Crawl as well as having two of my photographs shortlisted for The Arts Brookfield photo exposition.
While i am always on the hunt for a new photo op, or opportunity to showcase my own work, i have come to realize there is a budding photographer in all of us. For this reason i also take on custom work, taking a client's own image, leaving it in it's original state or adding my special touch in the form of script, layering or a pop of acrylic paint, gallery mounting and resin coating it. These make incredible and one of a kind statement pieces for any occasion.
Working on a custom piece with a bride who's hair i've styled for her wedding is a special treat and allows me to combine two loves into one. Not only did i have the honour of being a part of her big day... but i'm then entrusted to preserve one of her favorite images from that day.
